Was over in Barcelona at the Affiliate World conference and got hit up by the Zorbas Media guys. They’re are the largest affiliate publication in…
Happy Friday everyone… I’m super excited and honored I was asked to speak at the Ecommerce Cartels Mastermind in Koh Samui over in Thailand September...
I’m so humbled and always feel honored that people still want to hear what I have to say. Always working to deliver value and give...
Sometimes just the first few steps of building a plan that’s the hardest. This is actually my favorite place to live and my favorite part of the process of building anything. The truly creative stage of turning nothing into something.
Slides from my Affiliate Summit West keynote address. I have to say this was the hardest talk I've done. Normally as a speaker & marketer, I like to target my talks to resonate with my audience.
Thought I'd repost this here. This is an article I wrote for Funnel Magazine. I asked them to link to my blog and they said no.
Can you believe it? Shawn Collins and Missy Ward have asked me to keynote Affiliate Summit West (ASW) 2018 in Las Vegas.
Wow I had no idea this was published publicly. Pretty excited about that. I thought it was for paid applicants only. But in searching for my own name on google (narcissist) I saw it pop up.
Interview I did after my talk at Affiliate World Europe. Break down some of my thoughts on the conference and those first steps to scaling an affiliate operation past being a solopreneur.
A friend of mine that runs the StackThatMoney training program called IStack Training asked me to do an interview with him for his podcast.
In my previous post, How to hire your first employees and what to expect…, I talked about some of the steps you might need to put in place before you hire that person, who you should hire and what to expect from them.
Wow what an amazing show. I wanted to thank all of you that came to see me speak.
Most of us entrepreneurs start in the affiliate world as “lone wolfs”.
As I don’t have a lot of time to sit and write out long blog posts I thought I’d share some of my Skype group chat logs.
Upcoming speaking Engagements.. Come see me talk about Scaling online direct response businesses & how to scale campaigns on Facebook.
Hope everyone is doing amazing.
Hope everyone is doing amazing.I obviously haven’t had a lot of time to post lately. But, someone I know asked me to do a quick off the cuff interview and I took him up on it.
Guess what? We have our yearly Performance Marketing Summit going on here in San Diego at the Hard Rock Hotel on June 4th, 2016.
As a lot of you know I've been spending a lot of my personal time focusing on building ecommerce and lead generation offer/products.
Why for Dummies books. (Maybe I’m a dummy?) Everyone learns differently. I am a top down learner. Basically I need to understand from a top level outline of what I’m trying to learn as the first step.
As most of know. One of the most difficult things to deal with in online advertising is dealing with ads on the major traffic sources.
Hope everyone is doing amazing. As always I’ve had 50 things going on and haven’t had much time to post I always feel like I need to spend a bunch of time and build strong posts for my blog.
After last years HUGE Success for our Traffic & Conversion Summit meet up cocktail hour with Charles and A4D are going to do it again.
Hey everyone, as promised here’s a quick video on how to use that A4D Media Buying worksheet out there.
Sorry it’s been a while… In 2016 I’m working on building out a content strategy for my blog as well as the A4D blog.
Notes - Stanford's Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders Podcast - Joshua Reeves founder of SaaS Startup Zen Payroll
I've been listening to a lot of Stanford - Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders podcasts lately.
How To Use Your Campaign Data To Reverse Engineer Yahoo Gemini Ad Delivery Algorithms (Part 1, eCPM vs Clicks)
I haven’t had much time to blog lately so I had one of my A4D media buying team members write up something cool that we’re doing to figure out how Yahoo Gemini’s algorithm works.
Very few of us are born with an innate ability to do affiliate marketing.
We use usertesting.com for various projects. It’s a great service to get verbal feedback and recordings of users talking about your web site & landing pages.
Not sure if you saw this but it’s HUGE news. Getty is the largest store of of online photography and is known for going around and suing people for using their images without the proper license.
As affiliates we often start by just doing stuff. We different things and eventually learn what are best practices and what just sucks.
Fist off I wish someone had given me this list and said “Make these into habits and you’ll be successful”. Of course I had to learn the hard way.
The most resilient creative business people I’ve ever met are successful affiliate marketers.
I wrote a long post on Stackthatmoney so I thought I’d post it here.
I get people asking me a lot where they should start in affiliate marketing.
Great systems start with frameworks. As most of you know by now I love systems and processes.
Saying that the password is their phone number.
Do smart students go to college? Or does college make students smart?
After countless questions from affiliates, merchants and my staff I thought I’d do a post on how tracking works from a very core level.
Tired of Explaining what you do? I have people ask me what I do for a living a lot. Do you get this question a lot?
4 Steps to Building Models for an Affiliate Media Buying Company (or any company for that matter) – 3 of 3
Welcome back. Glad to see your’e still with me. Lets get started…
4 Steps to Building Models for an Affiliate Media Buying Company (or any company for that matter) – 2 of 3
This how we’re going to have your affiliate business running when we get done here. Just churning out campaigns like assembly line workers. *disclaimer: probably not
I really do appreciate all the readers of my blog. And because of that I’d really like to make sure I’m writing what people want to read about.
4 Steps to Building Models for an Affiliate Media Buying Company (or any company for that matter) - 1 of 3
Hmm well maybe not that kind of model. Maybe this is more appropriate?
Heard that quote before? Probably (Glengarry Glen Ross)… now why is that? Read this post a few times today.
3:30 am on a Saturday morning. I've been traveling around the world and my timezones are all messed up. So I woke up after going to bed at 10pm and started looking at Facebook to catch
Step 4 – Deciding who to hire. I break people to hire into 3 categories. Expensive high value people, support people and outsourced people.
Step 2 – Sort our List. Now that we have our list of what we do lets rank this list by high value time spent.
“Either you have money or you have time, but very rarely do you have both” Not sure who wrote this but I’ve heard it many times. And couldn’t be closer to the truth.
Are you headed out to Ad: Tech NYC 2013? If so I’d like to personally invite you to our Party we’re throwing at The Griffin nightclub.
I get hit up a lot during the day by people that are having some challenges in their direct marketing business. Typically the problems are the same.
I want to thank Jennifer for coming down to San Diego to do an interview with me.
I’m sure some of you sat in on my talk at the A4D meetup. And or read through my Deck I posted a week ago. But If you only saw the deck then you might have looked at this one point and said “oh yeah that makes sense”
Head feeling something like this? Now that we have EPC and CPC figured out we can go back to our first equation.
Even if someone is buying on a CPC most traffic sources back everything out to a CPM.
So now that we have the decimal version of the percentage we can do some basic math to figure out our how many clicks we get per 1k impressions we serve.
Our whole business is driven by a fairly simple math equation. The CPC, cost per click, has to be lower then the EPC, earnings per click.
I’ve been helping people learn this business for YEARS now. Probably helped well over 300-500 people learn how to buy media via search and content PPC, social ads, ppv, etc.
Sergey is someone I’ve recently met and brought in as our CTO of Pixlwise.
Reading through my Deck for the A4D meetup I realized I could write a whole post on each bullet point. So go through this very slowly and think about each bullet point at length and how it applies to your business.
Is this you? Making good money but getting burned out? There’s a simple fix… want to know what it is?
My good industry friend Amada asked me to join a panel for Affiliate Summit West 2013 to talk about how I came up from a single affiliate working from home into building a large scale sustainable business.
I posted this on a few forums but thought I’d put it up here as well.
In my last post, Calculating Success – Figuring out ROI’s – Part 1 we covered a couple of things.
I’m not a local leadgen guy first off. I know I did that post earlier today about local leadgen and that was more my thoughts on a nice scalable business model.
I know I said I was going to do the second math equation post next. However I felt that was a little heavy so I’m going to do something less technical in between to lighten the mood.
Remember those word problems we used to have in school and how much you hated them? If you’re in marketing whether that’s affiliate marketing or offline marketing, you’re involved in one big word problem all day long.
Due to the changes in the rebill space I’ve been spending a lot of time researching what’s going on in the rest of the online marketing world. As you know Ads4dough has changed a lot to lead generation,
This started as most of my blog posts do. I was talking with an affiliate that works with Ads4Dough and reviewing some of his copy he was using on a article type lander.
Involved in affiliate marketing? Then you probably know that Affiliate Summit West is just a few days away. So how can you get the most out of the show?
As a lot of you have noticed as we get closer and closer to Christmas and New Years, traffic and conversions get more and more erratic.
I spend most of my days helping affiliates and advertisers become successful. And with that comes being able to communicate the things that have made me successful as an affiliate in what I’ve done.
Was reading a post on a forum the other day and someone was asking about where email submits convert. Figured I’d share the honest answer.
What makes the first person blog testimonial lander so powerful? Why do review sites convert well?
I know it’s been an eternity since I’ve posted. But such is life. As usual a post I responded to in WF inspired this and a lot of it is a copy from there. But I thought it was definately worth reposting for all of my readers.
In my classic style I started to respond to a post on Wickedfire and the fellow was asking if people in the forum loved affiliate marketing. At which time I got on a side tangent but I feel it’s a good read either way.
I made a response to this post where people were talking about Affiliate Managers and their lack of industry knowledge.
As an affiliate sometimes we wonder why things don’t sell. Well when it comes to selling it all comes down to psychology. (This is a repost of a response I made to a post at WickedFire.com, thought it was worth reposting here).
I was on vacation and didn't have regular internet access. Luckily this wasn't one of my main boxes and this was a site that didn't get much traffic.
“THIS IS A REPOST FROM A POST I MADE AT WICKEDFIRE” But I think it’s important so I’m going to republish it here.
If you're looking to inspire more trust with your users an SSL Certificate is always a good way to go. For example if you're promoting auto loan leads and have a private label offer then you should have the form page
As some of you know I’ve been moving to building my own offers and some other things on the advertisers side I’ll sharing later.
Originally I posted this over at Blackhatworld.com but thought I’d repost it on here for my readers.
He has moved it to his own domain. He's posted all his enlightening archived content posts from the past.
Thought I'd make a blog post about it and see if the highest trend keyword right now will bring much traffic. My guess is it's someone gaming Trends.
My goal was to get 8k IP’s setup on a single server I’d never done this before but someone mentioned you could so I figured it was possible.
Just a quick post about a forum I found today. If you're looking for other people to talk about CURL and PHP with I came across this forum the other yesterday.
If you haven’t heard already Amazon has been doing this for a bit. Basically rather then buying a new server you can use a nice web based service to do things for you.
As I’m sure you know PHP as with most languages you can code right in a text editor on your home computer. However this might not be the most effective use of your time.
Are you familiar with what pinging an aggregator is? If you’re looking for a way to let the world know that your blog or website has been updated there’s something you can do which is called pinging an aggregator
As normal I started to respond to a post on wickedfire about affiliate summit west and got into a rant so I decided to post it here.
I Know I don’t usually post crap that’s not specifically coding related but I thought I’d reach out and see who of my readers is going to Affiliate Summit West?
I’ve been having a few people ask me for my class to login and pull stats automatically from the different affiliate networks that run on Directtrack’s Affiliate Solution.
Sometimes I find myself assuming people are smarter then they are.
The other day someone told me about the new Pepperjam Affiliate network and being as I like to check out everything new in the industry I decided to sign up.
If you haven’t guessed by now I’m not the kind of guy to give fish out, I’m a strong believer in the “Teach and man to fish” theory.
I don’t want credit for this it was written by a very smart fellow named Diorex who’s blog isn’t any longer online.
